Itinerary

Catch billfish and big game species, improve your skills, meet new friends and explore the destination: our seven-day itinerary is all about creating a fun, immersive experience.

Anglers arrive in Kona, Hawaii for check-in.

Enjoy your day exploring Kona, then meet us for a welcome reception and dinner to get to know each other before heading out on the water.

Fishing days start early: breakfast at 6 a.m., and departure from the marina at 7 a.m. Each day is unique as the anglers’ skills, weather, and bite factor into what happens on the water. But the overall goal remains constant: catch fish, learn, and have a great time. Boats are back at the marina at 4 p.m. so anglers have time to freshen up before dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Anglers put what they have learned to the test and compete in a mini fishing tournament. Bragging rights and trophies are on the line. The day concludes with dinner and the awards ceremony.

Your airport shuttle will return you to Kona International Airport.

Fishing OvervieW

Hawaii’s volcanic islands serve as natural feeding outposts for many pelagic species, including the blue marlin, which is no doubt at the very top of every big-game angler’s list. And Kona’s waters are also home to every billfish that swims in the Pacific. The depths plummet rapidly, so the trolling often begins as soon as the boats clear the harbor markers. To cover ground at a good clip, nearly everyone pulls a spread of artificial lures, with some of the world’s most popular designs originating in Kona. Heavy tackle fishing is the name of the game in the blue marlin mecca, with most boats running their lures from 80- and 130-pound outfits.

The most consistent marlin fishing is usually between April and September, but it’s often solid year-round, and it’s not that uncommon for boats to encounter a grander blue every month of the year.

Join us as we fish with four of Honokohau Harbor’s top charter boats whose crews specialize in hunting big marlin. Your professional instructors will introduce you to the art of fishing with heavy tackle, and help you gain the experience you need to become a confident, well-rounded angler.
